October 2010

Beginning on November 19th, on Friday and Saturday evenings, we will be giving Civil War Christmas tours at Smallin Civil War Cave which will include a lantern light trip to Smallin Cave with a stop along the way at the campfire to warm up and have a cup of hot chocolate. These tours will be by reservation. Call or email ahead of time to let us know if you are interested.

Our first Civil War Tours were great and the food was delicious! Thank you to all who attended. Below are photos from the Civil War Tours on September 17th and 18th.

Our first Civil War Tours are scheduled for September 17th and 18th at 7:00 pm. We will have a dinner of beans, cornbread, and fried potatoes around a campfire followed by a lantern lit tour to the cave. The price of $29.95 will include the dinner and tour. Call or email us to reserve your spot! Must pay in advance to reserve a spot.

We were thrilled to have Dr. David Ashley at Smallin Civil War Cave on Friday August 13th to give a presentation on Cave Biology and Ecology. Thank you to all who attended. We have been enjoying your visits to Smallin Civil War Cave this summer!

Dr. David Ashley from Missouri Western University and some of his students finished their yearly study of our Bristly Cave Crayfish. We were thrilled to share this experience and his knowledge to guests and school groups who visited during his study at Smallin Civil War Cave. We had a great time at the cave dedication ceremony on June 6th. It was attended by friends of the family, members of Smyrna Baptist Church, and members of Central Assembly. Thank you to all who attended, and who have kept us in your prayers! Below are photos of the ceremony.

May 2010

We are now offering gem panning! Bring your kids out to mine for gems and fossils in an authentic sluice box. Also, we are working on a complementary maze crawl for all ages!

Wild Tours are now being offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. A minimum of four people are required to take a wild tour, so call in advance to assure that a wild tour will be taken on the evening you wish to come.

Call ahead for summer group reservations with 20 or more people. We are offering a "build your own trip" with special group rates. Call for more information.

April 2010

We had a great first week! Thank you all for coming, we hope to see more of you all! Wild Tours have been overwhelmingly requested, so we will begin booking wild tours this week. Check the "Tours" section for more information.

We have been working on Sonrise Cave, and we hope to have the trails and lighting finished soon. Keep checking our news updates for photos of Sonrise Cave.

 

March 2010

We are set to open on April 2nd! The walkways are under construction and we are finishing the last of the renovations. Our signs will be put up soon. We will be opening the first week in April. Details of the exact opening date and our hours of operations will be posted on our website soon.

February 2010

It has been a busy and cold month! Handrail construction is nearly complete. Smallin Cave is now wheelchair accessible with newly widened walkways. We will begin walkway construction soon and we are ready to install the remaining lighting in the cave. We will announce our opening date in the coming weeks.

Look for us on KOLR 10 on Monday, March 1st to see footage of our progress!

 

January 2010

The building renovations have been completed. Handrail construction has begun. We have the cave partially lit and expect to have the last of our lighting delivered soon. Below are pictures of our progress and the ice from this month. The signs in the photos below were hand painted by Wanetta Bright.
